Turning Round On The Turntable : Ribbon Stage, Cherry Cheeks, Thee Cha Cha Chas, Rata Negra, Rive Droite Country Club

RIBBON STAGE -  Hit With The Most  Lp - K Records / PERENNIAL Records - 2022   X Section 26  still stands as the best French web sites for DIY pop & post-punk. In June 2023, the webzine took advantage of  Ribbon Stage 's first European tour to interview the New York trio. The sincerity of their words and the spontaneity of their music have pushed us to take an active interest in their records.  With  Ribbon Stage , we discover a largely feminised band with edgy compositions that clearly lean back on both the feminine post-punk of the early 80s ( Kleenex ,  Dolly Mixture ,  Girls At Our Best ...) and the girly indie garage-pop revival of the mid-2000s ( Dum Dum Girls ,  Plexi 3 ,  Vivian Girls ,  Miss Chain & the Broken Heels ...). The melodies are delicate and flavored with atmospheres reminiscent of melancholy and quarter-life crisis.  Ribbon Stage  deserves a place of choice between its contemporary alter eg...

We must admit it. It was pretty fun to play the smart punk professor in the columns of the Reunionese webzine  Bongou  throughout the whole austral winter (have a check on the series  Allez Les Filles , a 12-episode report on the punk girls in our local gigs x ), but this time-consuming story has sadly led us to make a complete pause from the  Turning Round The Turntable  section of  Shut Up & Play the Music . The heart of the blog, indeed... But hopfully, we're back and fully ready for a few reviews of the records that have turned round the turntable over the last five months. So, let's start with the latest batch of 7-inch records that our favorite, passionate dealer of lo-fi garage-punk nuggets -  Goodbye Boozy Records  - put together in the middle of the Italian summer.
